The father of the four children who were rescued from the Colombian jungle following a plane crash has spoken for the first time about the incident and provided more details.
The children were on the plane with their mother and other adults, but not with their father, Manuel Roque Mucutuy.
Now, the father of Lesly (13), Soleiny (9), Tien Noriel (5) and Cristin Neriman Ranoque (1) has explained that, from what he can gather from his oldest daughter, the mother survived for a few days but then succumbed to her injuries.
"Before she died, their mom told them something like 'You guys get out of here, you guys are going to see the kind of man your dad is, and he's going to show you the same kind of great love that I have shown you'," the father explained.
Although he is very happy to have found his children alive, what worries him most now is his safety and that of his family, as he is being threatened with death by FARC dissidents because he has supposedly not agreed to the group's blackmail threat.
"I have difficulties with the Carolina Ramirez front, who are looking for me to kill me," he added.
"I have threats because I am a target for them, because I know the whole area.
"What I am most afraid of is that I know that these people could start pressuring me with my children and I will never allow that as long as I am alive.
"The only thing they want is economic interest and, as long as you don't join them, you are an enemy."
Astrid Caceres, director of the Colombian Institute for Family Welfare (ICBF), has said in an interview that, after what happened, the national government will guarantee the children lifelong education.
"We have spoken to the president and we have made a commitment that they have a guaranteed education to protect these children", adding that, as part of their future, the four children are now "children of all of Colombia".
